Itīs only a matter of time before your friend commits suicide and no one seems to think perhaps your friend needs help? Has your friend explored the various avenues available through both government agencies in which HE can improve his life via grants, scholarships etc as a struggling single parent? Tons exist... itīs simply a matter of taking advantage of whatīs available or choosing to remain weeping in sorrow.
Your friend knew birth control fails, and unless he chose to verify she was taking the pill, he chose to have sex with her and take that risk. He has no one to blame but himself for making that choice. Sex outside of marriage ALWAYS includes the risks of an unplanned pregnancy and a woman does have the right to keep her child. Some of us flat out do not believe in using abortion as a males form of contraceptive when so many men refuse to take responsibility themselves for their own fertility and their little swimmers.
If your friend is so distraught I suggest seeing a doctor. If he is suicidal he NEEDS HELP. As a friend, you should not be encouraging his self defeating attitude but perhaps encourage him to get some counseling and seek resources to change his situation.
